Paediatric Neurology and Epileptology
Dr. Biayna Sukhudyan, MD, PhD is a leading pediatric neurologist and epileptologist in Armenia. She currently serves as the Chief of the Pediatric Neurology and Epilepsy Service at the "Arabkir" Joint Medical Center and is the President of the Armenian League Against Epilepsy. She is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at the National Institute of Health. Dr. Sukhudyan earned her medical degree and completed her residency at Yerevan State Medical University, followed by a PhD in Pediatrics. She has extensive international training, including fellowships at the Hospital for SickKids in Toronto, UCLA’s Mattel Children's Hospital, and the St. Ivan Rilski University Hospital in Bulgaria. A co-opted member of the European Paediatric Neurology Society (EPNS) board, she is a certified trainer for the European Epilepsy Academy (EUREPA) and has authored over 50 scientific publications. Her work focuses on advancing epilepsy diagnosis and neuroimaging in pediatric care.

Neurosurgery
Dr. Demitre Serletis, MD, PhD is an accomplished epilepsy neurosurgeon-scientist in the Charles Shor Epilepsy Center, within the Neurological Institute at the Cleveland Clinic. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto in Canada, where he completed his Neurosurgery residency and PhD graduate training in Neuroengineering. He subsequently completed formal epilepsy surgery fellowship training at the Cleveland Clinic. Over the past decade, he has worked at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas, followed by the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, where he developed two consecutive epilepsy surgery programs in underserviced regions, for adult and pediatric patients with refractory epilepsy. For his efforts, he was recently awarded the Provincial Medal of Excellence from Doctors Manitoba, as a lifetime achievement award for his advancement of epilepsy care, including epilepsy surgery, in Manitoba, Canada. Most recently, Dr. Serletis joined the prestigious epilepsy team at the Cleveland Clinic, where he operates on adult and pediatric patients with epilepsy, and also directs the Brain Dynamics Laboratory. His research interests are in nonlinear dynamics and intracranial EEG signal processing, and he is cross-appointed to the Department of Biomedical Engineering, within the Lerner Research Institute at the Cleveland Clinic. He sits on the Scientific Committee of the American Epilepsy Society, and is a long-standing member of the American Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and the Canadian Neurological Sciences Federation.
Pediatric Neurology and Epileptology
Dr. Gia Melikishvili, MD is a prominent pediatric neurologist and epileptologist based in Tbilisi, Georgia, with over 30 years of clinical experience. He currently serves as a Pediatric Neurologist at the MediClubGeorgia Medical Center and has held senior roles at various prestigious institutions, including the O. Ghudushauri Clinic and the Sarajishvili Institute of Neurology. Dr. Melikishvili is highly specialized in clinical electroencephalography (EEG) and the management of complex pediatric epilepsy. He has completed several advanced fellowships in France, notably at the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul and Necker-Enfants Malades hospitals in Paris. A dedicated researcher and educator, he serves as an invited lecturer at the Tbilisi State Medical University and is the President of the Georgian Union of Child Neurology and Neurosurgery. He has authored numerous scientific publications in international journals, contributing significantly to the fields of neurodevelopmental disorders and epileptology.

Dr. Giorgi Kuchukhidze, MD, PhD is a highly accomplished neurologist and neuroscientist specializing in epileptology and neuroimaging. He is currently an Associate Professor and Senior Physician at the Department of Neurology, Paracelsus Medical University in Salzburg, Austria, where he also serves as the Head of the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit. Dr. Kuchukhidze earned his medical degree in Tbilisi, Georgia, followed by a PhD in Neuroscience and a Habilitation (Doctoral Thesis) in Salzburg, focusing on the imaging and electro-clinical features of malformations of cortical development. His professional journey includes significant clinical and research fellowships at the Medical University of Innsbruck and a residency in Neuroradiology. A Fellow of the European Academy of Neurology, Dr. Kuchukhidze has received prestigious awards, including the Ernst-Niedermeyer Prize for Epileptology. His work is widely published in leading journals such as Brain and Neurology, focusing on advanced MRI techniques and the surgical treatment of refractory epilepsy. Notably, he also served as a Chef de Mission for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Gyumri, Armenia, from 2002 to 2004.

Dr. Imad Najm, MD is a world-renowned leader in the field of epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology. He currently serves as the Director of the Cleveland Clinic Epilepsy Center and holds the Joseph and Ellen Thomas Endowed Chair in Epilepsy. Additionally, he is the Vice-Chairman of the Neurological Institute at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Najm’s clinical expertise focuses on the management of drug-resistant epilepsy, particularly through the use of advanced neuroimaging and Stereo-EEG (SEEG) for surgical evaluation. A prolific researcher and educator, he has authored over 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has been a principal investigator for numerous NIH and Department of Defense grants. He is a past recipient of the prestigious Merritt-Putnam Award from the American Epilepsy Society and is deeply involved in international efforts to refine the classification and treatment of focal cortical dysplasia.

Dr. Kaloyan Gabrovski, MD, PhD is a neurosurgeon working in the Department of Neurosurgery, University Hospital St. Ivan Rilski, Sofia and assistant professor at Medical University, Sofia, Bulgaria. His work and scientific interests are mostly focused in the fields of intraoperative neuromonitoring, stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, epilepsy surgery and neurosurgical oncology.

Dr. Krasimir Minkin, MD, PhD, did his residency in Bulgaria and in France. He works a sa neurosurgeon from 2007. Associated Professor of Neurosurgery from 2021. Principle interests: epilepsy surgery, movement disorder surgery, neurooncology, pediatric neurosurgery and AVM treatment. Co-founder of epilepsy surgery program, movement disorder surgery and awake surgery in Bulgaria. Part of the team starting epilepsy surgery, DBS and awake surgery in Armenia. Prof. Maša Malenica, MD, PhD is a distinguished child neurologist and epileptologist based in Zagreb, Croatia. She currently serves as the Head of the Department of Child Neurology and Epileptology at the University Hospital Centre Sestre milosrdnice and is the national coordinator for the ERN EpiCARE center for rare and complex epilepsies. Professor Malenica’s impressive academic background includes a degree in Biology and Psychology from Notre Dame of Maryland University (USA), followed by research positions at Johns Hopkins Medical School and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She earned her medical degree and PhD from the University of Zagreb and completed specialized epilepsy training at the Cleveland Clinic Epilepsy Center. A global leader in her field, Professor Malenica is a member of the Executive Board of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) for the 2025–2029 term. Within the ERN EpiCARE network, she leads the Working Group on Education and Training. She is also a co-director of the international EPIPED course and a member of the ILAE Education Council. Her research focuses on rare epilepsies, pharmacoresistant cases, and pharmacogenetics. In addition to her clinical work, she leads a national counseling center for children with epilepsy and teaches at the University of Zagreb’s Medical and Law schools.

Specializations: 1997/1998 - 10 months Neuropediatrics in Freiburg, Germany (DAAD); 2000 – 3 months Neuropediatrics at AKH, Vienna (OAD); 2005 – 3 months at Epilepsy Center, Freiburg (DAAD); 2009 - 3 months at Epilepsy Unit, Grenoble (EPODES grant); all 11 European SEEG courses (2010-2022), 4 San Servolo courses (2004, 2006, 2007; 2019 – as tutor and lecturer), many EPNS courses. 2006-present: starting the Bulgarian Epilepsy Surgery Program, now leading the LTM-video-EEG monitoring and epileptology unit [part of the epilepsy surgery team at the only epilepsy surgery center in Bulgaria]. 2015: president of the BG chapter of ILAE (Bulgarian Society Against Epilepsy)
Anesthesiology
Dr. Rafi Avitsian M.D. FASA, is a Professor of Anesthesiology in Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University and the program. He is the current president elect of Medical Staff Office of Cleveland Clinic, and the director for the neurosurgical anesthesiology fellowship program. He has served as the Vice Chair for Professional Development in the Department of General Anesthesiology and also the Section Head for the Neurosurgical Anesthesiology in Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He is one of the founders, as well as executive board member, of International Council for Perioperative Neuroscience Training (ICPNT). He is the immediate past president of Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care (SNACC). He is an American Board of Anesthesiologists’ Applied Senior Examiner, as well as a member of the Association of University Anesthesiologists & recipient of ASA-SEA Distinguished Education Award. His academic interest is mostly in brain tumors, anesthetic methods for seizure surgery, brain protection and outcomes of spine surgery as well as Difficult Airway Management. His clinical studies are mostly directed to finding ways to improve the outcome of surgery after neurosurgical procedures. He is also interested in medical innovations with already filed as well as published patents. Dr. Avitsian is on the executive board of International Center for Professional Development (ICPD) in Armenia. More than 40 published peer reviewed manuscripts, two book chapters and many abstract presentations also highlights his academic achievements. He is on the editorial board of Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology and Journal of Anesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology and an ad hoc reviewer for Anesthesiology, Anesthesia Analgesia, World Neurosurgery journal and International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS) annual meeting abstracts.
Pediatric Neurology and Epileptology
Dr. Sergey Ayvazyan, MD, PhD, is a distinguished pediatric neurologist and epileptologist with over 37 years of clinical experience. He currently serves as the Head of the Epileptology Department and Video-EEG Monitoring Unit at the "Neurogenesis" Center for Epileptology and Neurology. Additionally, he is a Leading Researcher at the Moscow Scientific and Practical Center for Medical Care for Children named after V.F. Voino-Yasenetsky. Dr. Ayvazyan earned his medical degree from the N.I. Pirogov Russian State Medical University and defended his PhD thesis on the evolution of seizures and EEG characteristics in early childhood epilepsies. He has completed advanced training in neuroimaging and epilepsy surgery, including a specialized program at Miami Children's Hospital in the USA. A prominent figure in the professional community, he is a member of the Russian League Against Epilepsy (RLAE) and serves on the Expert Council on Neurophysiology and Epilepsy Surgery. He has authored more than 150 scientific publications and remains a key expert in the field of pediatric clinical neurophysiology.

Prof. Alexis Arzimanoglou, MD, PhD is an internationally renowned neurologist and child neurologist specializing in rare and complex epilepsies. He currently serves as the Director of the Epilepsy Unit at the Hospital San Juan de Déu in Barcelona, Spain, and leads the Epilepsy Research Program at the Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu (IRSJD). A leader in European medical coordination, Professor Arzimanoglou is the Coordinator of the European Reference Network for Rare and Complex Epilepsies (ERN EpiCARE) and the Director of the European Consortium for Epilepsy Trials (ECET). He holds academic appointments as a Visiting Professor at the Universitat de Barcelona and as Professor of Neurology and Child Neurology at the Medical College of Paris, France. Professor Arzimanoglou earned his medical degree from the Aristotle University of Salonica and his PhD from Université Paris VI Pierre et Marie Curie. Throughout his distinguished career, he has remained at the forefront of pediatric neurology, contributing extensively to clinical research, the development of epilepsy treatments, and the coordination of international reference networks to improve patient care across Europe.
