COVID Pandemic - Lessons Learnt Virtual Conference

In 2020 the most important health crisis for the World Health Organization (WHO) as well the priority on the agenda of ministries of health in every country is the COVID-19 pandemic. The rapid rate of spread of this infection has devastated the humanity as a whole and made significant changes in every life on earth. It is not more than 6 months since the WHO has declared the COVID-19 infection a pandemic, and we now see the true tragedy from the death toll that it has brought globally.

Unfortunately Armenia is not immune from this disaster, the rate of infection and death rate has been increasing dramatically especially from the end of May and well into month of June. The health care workers as well as authorities are in dire need for finding the effective defense mechanism against this infection. There are multiple studies under way and many different strategies have been suggested, however we still need scientifically proven methods to identify, control the spread, treat and prevent the infection as well as design strategies to attend the pre-pandemic health care issues.

This conference addresses thisglobal problem by discussing the experience gained through the period of pandemic worldwide, hence the name –“Lessons Learnt”. The goal is to scale the efforts and shift the course of action in finding the suitable ways to face current surge in infection as well as to address the correct way to return attention to other, usual and pre-pandemic health care matters.

Experts from across the world will be discussing related topics in 4 major categories, the epidemiology of COVID-19 including the comparison of defense strategies globally, clinical issues in general population, subspecialty topics in pregnancy and pediatric population with COVID, and finally the effect on health care industry, innovations, role of information technology and strategies to return to normal work in health care centers. The lectures will be followed by live Q&A sessions by moderators in a virtual format to address concerns from participants.

2nd PROFESSOR EDGAR HOUSEPIAN CLINICAL NEUROSCIENCE SYMPOSIUM. PEDIATRIC NEUROSURGERY

The International Center for Professional Development (ICPD) is cognizant of its duty to honor those who made substantial contributions to advancement of healthcare and medical education in Armenia. The ICPD is proud to be the organizer of the 2nd Professor Edgar Housepian Clinical Neuroscience Symposium on Pediatric Neurosurgery.

Professor Edgar Housepian was an internationally-renowned neurosurgeon at New York’s Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, whose daily activity was oriented to the creation for the sake of a human being, the community and the Country. He led the launch of still operating multiple Continuous Medical Education Programs designed for medical personnel of Armenia and Artsakh. His inexhaustible dedication and open-mindedness very much contributed to improvement of the health care system of Armenia.

With advances in healthcare and improved survival from communicable disease in pediatric population especially in low- and mid-income countries, there is an increased need for neurosurgical procedures. Despite the influx of knowledge and equipment from diaspora which resulted in improvements in pediatric neurosurgery in post-Soviet Armenia, there is still a need for continuous learning to be able to reach comparable levels of advanced health care systems.

This symposium will create an opportunity for pediatric perioperative neurosurgical specialists in Armenia, to meet their peers from well-known neurosurgical centers in USA and Europe virtually, exchange ideas, and share experience discussing new technologies and techniques.

This symposium provides focused, comprehensive knowledge to neurosurgeons with a specific interest in pediatric, stereotactic and functional neurosurgery.

Goals

At the end of this symposium, the participants will be able to:

  • Discuss advancements in pediatric stereotactic and functional neurosurgery,
  • Review methods to implement advanced perioperative care for pediatric patients in need of neurosurgical procedures in Armenia
  • Develop new collaborations with peer specialists in USA and Europe
  • Exchange ideas and knowledge with colleagues from different countries and different settings, networking with other professionals,
  • Apply knowledge and the science of pediatric functional neurosurgery to start such programs in Armenia

Course Format

This two-half day virtual symposium will take place on October 6 and 7, 2023, at 16:00-20:00 Yerevan time and will be moderated to allow questions and answers by participants.
